In the steps of the ancestors… how Pope Francis’ trip isn’t all rainbows and blessed babies

Really, really good post. really good. read it.

One of the tenets for those of us who work in Northern Tradition polytheism, is that not only do we honor the old Gods and Goddesses, and the spirits (vaettir/wights) of land and sea, but that we also honor those who came before us: our ancestors who paved the way. So what makes more sense than to take that road paved on their blood, sweat, tears and bodies, and walk in remembrance?

Have you made your ancestor's proud today? Have you made your ancestor’s proud today?

  1. This is just so absolutely what I was saying to another young woman (Norse/Amerindian Ancestry) on another list. She was dissing her Norse ancestors (she denied it; however it was obvious — name calling, saying that they peacefully converted, etc……). She did this to place her Native Ancestors on a pedestal. It was a sad spectacle. She also slandered me. It was not pretty. I have no idea where she got her so-called information on the Norse, She claimed that some of it came from a museum in Sweden. Needless to say, I was quite surprised when she wrote that. I just dislike it so that people lie to themselves — for whatever stupid reason. I don’t know how her ancestors feel at the roots of the World Tree for the Slander she used against them (that they were ONLY plunderers). I am fairly sure that her Indian Ancestors are uncomfortable with it as well. Oh, well, since I am no longer darkening the doors at All Souls’ UU, they will have to live in the darkness of ignorance unless someone actually does do some real research.
