bookery

I read a lot and very quickly and I’m actually kind of curious about how many books I read in a year. A colleague of mine keeps a list of everything she reads and looks it over at year end (she likes lists). She told me about that and I thought it was a great idea so I decide for this year to do the same. So far I’ve read six books: four mysteries by N. Goodwin, a collection in Latin of Cicero’s letters to Terentia and Tullia, and C. Freeman’s “Holy Bones, Holy Dust.”

Maybe this’ll motivate me to quick wasting time. LOL. I have a whole stack of “must reads” that’s just been accruing for years.

  1. I should probably do similar…it may motivate me to read through all the books I bought lost year from amazon for research purposes and never got around to lol….not to mention my ever growing wish list on amazon. *snort* well if I ever end up with a book you want to read do let me know and I will “intralibrary” loan it to you hahaha.

My goal is to read a thousand books by dec. 31.

i tend to read mysteries when i want to unwind—something that requires no actual thought lol. my must read list is mostly history stuff.

      • Mysteries are my favorite brain junk food *grin*. My first ones I read were all the Poirot books I could get my hands on lol. I can’t say I have a specific goal in mind other than read through what has accumulated so far and maybe read out my amazon wishlist if possible (although there are some volumes that are around 40 dollars or more that I may not get to!)

  2. I am not a very fast reader, except under exceptional circumstances…and the last few years have seen my overall “books read per year” at its lowest ebbs. I hope to turn that around this year…

  3. I use to keep a book journal. I read about 12 books a year; 15 books a year if I was reading Young Adult books. I’m a slow reader but I remember most of the books I read.

This year I want to read Kharis by Dver, Greek Religion by Burket, etc. I also want to read some books in my “to read” pile, and try to stop buying so many books! 😉

both are awesome books. Burkert is a bit dated but still a must read and really a classic in the field and Kharis is beautiful and easily accessible and I think you’ll get a lot out of it. 🙂

  4. Before brain injury, I read 5 books a week ranging from sci fi to non-fiction. After brain injury, one book a week. However, it was a major breakthrough when I could read and understand fiction. I could follow and remember plots. I do what my son’s high school does: DEAR – Drop Everything And Read for twenty minutes a day.
