I don’t even know what to call this.

I’ve been watching a lot of videos and seeing facebook posts and various responses to the street theatre clusterfuck masquerading as a magical operation: i.e. self-identified witches and pagans trying to hex our President.

As a polytheist I want to make it clear I and the majority of my co-religionists have no part in this.

Whatever one thinks of our President, he is our president and harming him is going to harm the country. More to the point, there’s going to be backlash, and not just fundy Christian prayer warriors attacking. This is a guy who has never encountered criticism without making a petulant display of a response.

Good job, folks. You stupid fuckwits have managed to undo thirty years of work to legitimize your “spiritualities” in one go. Polytheisms are going to be tarred with the same brush that blackens you unless we clearly distance ourselves from this stupidity. And it is stupidity. Most of these people couldn’t magic themselves out of a paper bag, as is evident by the incompetent ritual that has been proposed as the center piece to this.

I guess actually growing up and becoming engaged in the civic process is too hard for these precious snowflakes. Don’t expect any of us with real religions to put our lives on the line for you. And heads up from a magician: when you do something like this, first rule of thumb: shut the fuck up about it.

  1. “And heads up from a magician: when you do something like this, first rule of thumb: shut the fuck up about it.” – THIS, FOREVER. Word of this sad series of events has reached even my neck of the woods… which is saying something, considering I’m in eastern Europe. Some public attempts to hex the man have even made the news. That’s what these people are. A joke; a little oddity to entertain those viewers who needed some comic relief with their politics.

Sometimes, working woe is what needs to be done. It is important not to be a fucking idiot about it. Egil’s níðstang – the most obvious analogy that comes to mind – was done in solitude, and on a remote island. Then again, that man was actually doing spirit work, and not indulging a penchant for public drama. Ye Gods.

Some things, I shall never understand.

  2. I didn’t participate for two reasons. He hasn’t done much yet to bind and I think the President of the United States has some pretty strong wyrd. Will it really be altered by even a nation of spells? Not to discount the craft I know my spells work but wyrd is powerful and can’t be changed. It seems better to protect those they think could be harmed then especially when so many work for the president.

    • I have suspected for some time that a lot of what is going on right now is wyrd or at the very least a very long gambit by various Powers approaching a climax. I’m reasonably hopeful this isn’t just about a golden apple, but rather the purification of some significant portion of our national miasma.

I think you may be right that the best course is to focus on protecting those in danger of becoming collateral damage in the process. If this is about generations worth of our spiritual filth there will likely be scapegoats (in the old sense) and it would be ideal to minimize the number in excess of what Natural Law demands.

  3. My first reaction when told about it was “be silent.” I think yours is much more effective.

Then I remember growing up in Cuba, where one of the big questions was, “how come with all the ‘magicians banding together to get rid of Fidel, he is still here?”

  4. Hmmm.. didn’t the “yippies” or whoever try to hex out “devils” from the Pentagon in the 1960’s by chanting “out, demon, out!” and suchlike before the main entrance ? Pesky, considering that it would upset a good number of government employees. When in doubt, we can always blame it on Miley Cyrus… Mr Trump is your president, yes, he might have a strong wyrd on stronger nuclear weapons at his disposal still – but just don’t expect everyone else in the World to like him… We have nothing against you or your country, or what it used to stand for, not at all – quite to the contrary – it is just your president – we do not protest in the way you described, nor do we pray – for w-e are Asatruamenn and praying is not our custom, but we swear to respect your constitution, and defend it, should the need arise. And we do hope for better times ahead. You SHALL be made great again, once you get rid of Mr Trump – preferrably by just and legal means.

  5. There are few things I’ve encountered that are so stupid that it is almost physically painful to contemplate. This, sadly, is one of them. I just hope it doesn’t cause more than some serious embarrassment to our communities.

  6. I have put the whole lot in the same bin as birthers or Tea Party, except they are the mirror left of the ones I mentioned. I knew a group that did the spell in Wash.D.C. They all were so virtuous and noble. (Actually, some are working in the local elections in VA, since the governor is up for re-election next year.) What I have sussed out there and elsewhere is there is hatred for the President dressed up as nobility. Instead of hating Trump for particular reasons, they are looking for reasons to support their hate of the man.

As for me, I pray to the Capitoline Triad of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva for wise government of the country, and to the Aventine Triad of Liber, Ceres, Libra for the rights of the poor and others to be protected.

The Yippies tried also to raise the Pentagon as well. They said they did it, but ……

you’re a roman polytheist, and I also practice cultus deorum….i can’t help but think that roman polytheists in their wisdom made it illegal by law to practice magic or divination around anything political. it would have resulted in arrest and a capital charge and for good reason.

  7. Not to mention the crossing of orlog… What about doing divination prior to any such working? And then, as previously said, shut the fuck up about it.
