Submission to Persephone’s Agon

For Persephone
by Alexeigynaix

Persephone,
You dance in the meadows
in golden summer light,
so light on Your feet
You never crush a wildflower,
though the meadow blooms profusely
in the nymph’s joy that You are there
to dance beside her.

Persephone,
You dance in the halls
in silver winter light,
a partnered dance, sedate,
gowned in garnet, crowned in gold,
and the still air weighs less heavily
in Your husband’s joy that You are there
to dance with Him.

Daughter of Demeter,
You walk among the orchards
while butterflies and bees
flit from bloom to bloom,
flower-crowned, arms bare,
while apples, peaches ripen
and nectar turns to honey
and Your mother walks with You.

Queen of Haides,
You walk among the asphodel
while new guests in Your realm
disembark the river ferry,
treading lightly on the pallid blooms,
while Lethe burbles quietly
and still Lake Memory reflects
and Your husband walks with You.

Submission to Persephone’s Agon

Prayer to Persephone
by Claire M.

Hail Persephone, Queen of the Underworld,
you who are Holy and knowing.
I call upon you in honour and reverence
and ask that you be present in my life.

I call to Kore Karpophoros;
bringer of spring flowers, mistress of seasons
whose return brings light to the world.
Help me find my path and have the courage to walk it.

I call to Persephone Khthonia;
infernal Queen of the great below.
Bringer of death, destroyer of light,
help me discover my power and have the strength to wield it.

I call to Persephone Megala Thea,
Queen of the sacred way.
Help me grow closer to you and understand your mysteries.
With grace and ease, so mote it be.

Fourth Submission to the Persephone Agon

Persephone
By Antheus

Hail Persephone!
Queen of those below !
Receiver of many!
Blessed Kore
gathering flowers
with lips stained red,
oscillating through
the mysteries
of coming and going,
of farewell and return.
May all my actions
please you!
May I always praise your name!
Until the day
when I tell the guards
to tell you
that Bakcheios Himself
has freed me,
and I join the eternal revel
as your blessed guest.
Hail Persephone!

Second Submission to Persephone’s Agon

Both
by Amanda Artemisia Forrester

Hail to You, Silent One, Nameless One!
Beautiful flower, with a steel core
Who walks the sunlit paths of the world above
And the ghostly roads below
Only You can live in both worlds
Only You can taste of the forbidden fruit of the dead
And return to Above to Your sun-kissed Mother
Only You hold sway over the heart of Death Himself
Only You can temper the wrath of Haides, the Host of Many
Lady of Both Worlds, we hail You now
As You prepare to go below,
Taking Your place beside Your dark Husband once more
Summer is done, the cold winds blow, and Winter is on it’s way
This is the time for You to shed Your skin of Kore, Lady of Flowers,
And become again Persephone, Queen of Shades
I hail You now, Savior of the Dead, merciful Mistress of the Mysteries
And also the innocent laughing Girl,
For right now, in this moment of Equinox,
When the Sun and the Moon are equal in the sky
You are Both
Both Girl and Queen
Both midwife and death-watcher
Both hunter and prey
Both birther and destroyer
Both light and dark
Both sunlight and snowfall
Both fertility and barrenness.
Tomorrow You will step across the Threshold,
Collapsing the wave-form
Into One.
Sweet Kore, gentle Kore, innocent Kore
Become again Persephone,
Queen of Winter, Lady of Bones, First Among the Dead.
Hail now to the Two Ladies, the Two Goddesses
In One.

September’s Agon is for Persephone

Ok. I promised to post prizes for the Persephone Agon.

Everyone who submits a piece will receive the prayer card of their choice.

The winner will receive the Persephone and Hades prayer cards and a copy of “Tending the Bull” by H. Jeremiah Lewis. (If you already own this, you may choose another of his titles).

The Agon will run until September 30, 9pm EST. All submissions should be sent to me at krasskova at gmail.com.

I received the first submission earlier today:

To the Mistress of the Dead
by V. Morelli

Sweet Lady of the Dead,
Queen of Hades’ realm,
Lady of asphodel
and bitter hemlock,
nightshade, datura,
aconite and all plants
that are doorways to Your realm,
please hear my prayer
and look upon it with favor.
My tears are at times like the bitter herbs
that are Your sacraments.

Bless and protect my dead, I pray.
Keep my ancestors safe.
Let them know that they are remembered.
Let them know that they are loved,
that someone on this mortal plane
thinks of them and cares for them.
Let them receive the offerings
that I regularly pour out for them.
Let them eat honey out of Your hands, Great Lady.
Let them hear my prayers
and when it is right, please
allow them to act for my well being
and protection.
Let their time with You and Your Husband
be sweet. Let it be a time of healing.
Let it be a time of celebration
for lives well lived.

This I pray to You,
Queen of Hades’ Hall,
Lady of the Pomegranate,
Who has danced in the labyrinth
Who has been reborn.
I will make offerings to You,
always.

Hail to You, Persephone.
