breathe people

As soon as I have time, I’m going to be posting an article about this election but for now, I want to offer a little perspective:

I’m not happy about the results but, and for me this is a really big but: we could we looking at a Cruz presidency.

As problematic as Trump may be for many of us, some of the other Republican candidates frankly terrified me with their religious fundamentalism. It could be a lot worse.

So take a deep breath, and start looking at those midterm elections.

  1. Long time lurker, first time poster. I’ve been thinking about the following quote from C S Lewis…

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. ”

I will always be disappointed by his choice of fate for Susan, but he is on the nose there.

  2. Mike Pence is, as they say, a heartbeat away from the Presidency now…and that is far more terrifying than Cruz. He doesn’t like non-Christians, and he especially doesn’t like queer people…if for some horrible reason he became President, I’d be double-fucked.

And with the 9th circuit decision to recognize alternate gender identities likely to be overturned by a conservative Supreme Court, and control of both houses of Congress…anyone who is not cisgendered is going to find themselves in very difficult times immediately ahead.

    • Hillary would be worse than even Pence. The worst that Pence can do is take away legal Gay Marriage and make more oppressive laws. Hilary would allow more Muslim Immigrants into the US with next to no background checks. Which means more incidents like Orlando will likely happen because they hate LGBTs far more than Christians do.
